PKU Doctor Zeng Zhu Won Chien-Fung Prize of ICB and ICCH

Peking University, Beijing, Jun. 8th, 2005: The 12th International Congress of Biorheology (ICB) and the 5th International Conference on Clinical Hemorheology (ICCH) was held in Chongqing from May 30th to June 3rd. The thesis by Zeng Zhu, doctor from Peking University, “Biophysical and hemorheological studies on the differentiations of human CD14+monocytes into dendritic cells” is recommended as the excellent prize for Chinese young scholars’ theses, after the examination and judgment of both national and international authoritative experts of this field.
This meeting attracted more than 250 research-workers of biorheology and hemorheology from 25 countries, Hongkong, Macao and Taiwan. More than 600 oral speeches and theses in the form of posters were handed over to the meeting. As a member of the Academic Committee of this meeting, Mr. Wen Zongyao, professor from Bio-physics Department of School of PKU Fundamental Medical Science and his student Zeng Zhu participated in this international meeting.
This prize is the only Chien-Fung prize and is named after two academicians: Bert Y.C. Fung and Shu Chien, Chinese-born Americans and famous bio-scientists. Professor Shun Chien was elected new chairman of the ICB and ICCH. As an honorary professor of Peking University, Mr. Chien has a long-term cooperation with PKU Hemorheology Research Center. He has been newly elected academician of American Science Academy, and has become the 8th scientist who has simultaneously won the honor of academician of Science Academy, Engineering Academy and Medical Science Academy.
