International Conference on QCD and Hadronic Physics will be held in PKU
PKU NEWS Wednesday 2005-06-15 Peking University, Beijing, June 15th, 2005: The International Conference on QCD and Hadronic Physics is to be held in Peking University from June 16 to June 20, 2005. The conference is organized by the Theoretical Physics Institute of Peking University. About 150 theoretical physicists from more than ten countries will attend the conference and engage in the discussion on the cutting-edge problems in the area of QCD and Hadronic Physics.
QCD is an integral part of the standard model and was invented over 30 years ago. Important discoveries and progress have been steadily made ever since. The 2004 physics Nobel prize was awarded to Asymptotic Freedom, a striking property of QCD at short distance, discovered in 1973 by D. Gross, D. Politzer, and F. Wilczek. In recent years, studies of heavy quark systems such as B-mesons, hot and dense QCD matter, and hadron structure and spectroscopy have widened the scope of QCD considerably. The goal of this conference is to bring together leading theorists in various subfields of QCD to reflect upon, to assess, and to provide a future perspective of this important frontier of physics. In the scrutinize and appraise of the 2004 National Natural Science Foundation of China, “the QCD and Hadronic Physics” which was in the charge of Academician Zhao Guangda, was imbursed by the scientific foundation of innovation research colony.
The conference was greatly supported by Committee of National Natural Science Foundation of China, CCAST, Beijing Science Association, Peking University and School of Physics at PKU. It is a significant gathering in the international area of theoretical physics and in the meantime an important academic activity for the celebration of World Physics Year.
