PKU Schoolfellow Won Outstanding Service Award of Harvard Graduate School of Education

Peking University, Beijing, June 17th, 2005: In the 354th graduation ceremony of Harvard University on June 9th, Zhu Cheng, student from the doctor course of Harvard Graduate School of Education, was awarded “Outstanding Service Award” by head of Harvard Graduate School of Education Ellen Condliffe Lage-mann for her contribution to the school. Zhu Cheng is the first Chinese student who gets this award.
Lage-mann expressed that the award is given to Zhu Cheng for her aptitude and energy of leadership in her chairmanship of the Student Union. Zhu Cheng gave her thanks to the deanery for their support and other student leaders of the Student Union and associations for their contribution to the Student Union.
According to Zhu Cheng, the Student Union of Harvard Graduate School of Education, consisting of about 50 associations, is an organization formally acknowledged and supported by the school authorities. During her chairmanship, the program of student service includes academic activities, information exchanges, financial aids, physical activities, social friendship activities and multi-dimensional knowledge-based activities. It is of great benefits to the students and forms a communication channel between students and school authorities through all kinds of activities.
Zhu Cheng, 25 years old, is graduated from the English Department of Peking University. She won the scholarship of Harvard Graduated School of Education in 2001 and a year later became the youngest graduate student who won the 351st Harvard Master's degree of Education. She won the scholarship of Harvard Graduate School of Education in 2003 and went on studying for the doctor's degree and is in her second year now.
The "Outstanding Service Award" is given after a comprehensive examination and appraisement to the students at Graduate School. Zhu Cheng said that her motive force mainly comes from her enthusiasm based on her own culture background. She hopes not only to get a better understanding of the cultural difference between America and China, but also to spread Chinese culture through her extra-curriculum activities.
